The "Future Citizens Involved though European Green Deal Challenge - FUCIN" project, in which young people from Beykoz, will contribute to sustainable environmental services in the district with their ideas and projects within the framework of the "European Green Deal" and gain citizenship and environmental awareness, has started.
“FuCIn: Future Citizens Involved Throught European Green Deal Challenge – A Great Fabric Of Our Citizenship” prepared in the field of Erasmus+ KA220, where the Italian National Research Council is the main applicant and Beykoz Municipality, Marmara Municipalities Union, K12 Foundation and Bilimce Association are the stakeholders. With the “Citizens of the Future Joining the European Green Deal” Project, young people’s participation in local government and environmental and citizenship awareness will be increased.
Active Citizenship Will Be Encouraged
The “European Green Deal”, which is also accepted by Turkey, envisages the efficient use of resources, restoring biodiversity and reducing pollution by switching to a clean, circular economy.
The project implemented in Beykoz aims to encourage active citizenship and develop and improve sustainable and green local policies through collaborations between students and local policy makers.
Young People Were Hosted at the Municipality
Beykoz Science High School students, who were involved in the project to contribute to a clean and livable world, made their first field visit to Beykoz Municipality to get information about the environment and cleaning activities in the district.
Beykoz Municipality Deputy Mayor Fatih Sağlam, who is responsible for the sports and youth services of the institution, hosted the young people in the Municipal Council hall, gave information about the projects carried out with the goal of “Zero Waste” in the district and took the suggestions of the young people.
Filiz Öner Mantaş, EU and Foreign Relations Officer of the institution, also made a comprehensive presentation introducing the district and the institution.
Green School, Ecological Park, Soilless Agriculture Greenhouse
In the next steps of the project, which will last 3 years, Beykoz Science High School students will visit the places where Beykoz Municipality’s “From Table to Soil, From Soil to Table: Juniper Table”, “Green School” and “Zero Waste Taxi” projects are carried out and examine the environmental works on site.
In addition, Beykoz Ecological Park, Soilless Agriculture R&D Greenhouse, Cumhuriyetköy Seed and Seedling Production Greenhouse and Village Market, which are among the investments made in the field of agriculture for the efficient use of resources, will inspire students.
Beykoz Science High School students will get to know the sustainable and green services of the institution closely, participate in technical trips to the activities and closely follow the decision-making processes of the municipality. Within the scope of the visit, municipal units and their operation were also introduced to the young people.
